Govt implements development schemes in NE states

New Delhi, Dec 13 (KNN)  The government has taken up various schemes and programmes to upgrade manufacturing units in the north eastern (NE) region, particularly in the areas of handlooms, handicrafts and agricultural marketing.

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has retained and sanctioned a series of projects under Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) scheme, according to an official notification.

DoNER implements its programmes through two public sector enterprises, namely, North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC) and North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC).   In addition, the ministry also provides interest free loan to North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (NEDFi).

The primary objective of NEHHDC is the development and procurement of handicrafts and handloom items from artisans and weavers of the region.  The authorized and paid up capital of NEHHDC is Rs 2 crore.

As far as NERAMAC is concerned, it has a mandate of procurement and marketing of agriculture and horticulture produce from NE Region and toward this, has authorized capital of Rs. 10 crore and paid up capital of Rs. 7.62 crore.
 
The government extends Non-Plan assistance to both these Corporations.
 
On the other hand, NEDFi provides credit and other facilities to sectors like industrial enterprises, infrastructure projects and agro-horticulture units in NE Region for promotion, expansion and modernization. It also provides microfinance in all eight states of the region.  (KNN/ST)
