Govt keen to set up plastic parks in Telangana

Hyderabad, Aug 9 (KNN) The government is keen to set up a Plastic Park in Telangana along with four other cities, and also invest in common facility and design assistance to support industrial growth.

Addressing the inauguration of International Plastics Exhibition – IPLEX 2014 in Madhapur yesterday, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers Ananth Kumar said that plastic industry is one of the oldest in the combined states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

There are nearly 8000 plastic units located in and around Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Mahboobnagar.  And combined turnover of these units is put at Rs 2500 crore, he said adding, “We recognize the potential of this place.”

“Government of India is planning to set up Plastic Parks in four cities across India. In addition to those four cities Telangana eminently deserves a Plastic Park. And I will pursue with the Planning Commission of India to set up a Plastic Park in Telangana along with four other cities,” informed Ananth Kumar. 

The government will also invest in common facility, provide design assistance; we will co-partners with the state,  he said.

He added that Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology in Hyderabad trains nearly 2500 people each year.  We will come up with a modern campus for CIPET in a five acres land in Rudram in Medak with an investment of Rs 50 crore.

He said that the government will buy the required land from Hindustan Fluro Carbon and the new campus will be ready in next two years. Nearly 5000 people will be trained in higher education of plastics, Ananth Kumar said. (KNN/SD)
