GTA, MSMEs and hill farmers plan to create a Separate Darjeeling Brand for hill produce

New Delhi, Mar 5 (KNN) In a bid to distinguish Darjeeling produce from others, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), state MSMEs and hill farmers have decided to market hill produce under a brand following retail chain interests.

GTA last week held a meeting in conjunction with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) of the state and hill farmers in Darjeeling.

In the recent meet regarding promotion and branding of Darjeeling produce, the details of the hill produce, their marketing techniques and ways to make the products sustainable have been discussed by the officials and farmers of Darjeeling.

Binay Tamang, chairman, board of administrators, GTA, said: "The GTA along with the state government has decided to market out produce mainly, broomstick, ginger, cardamom, turmeric, round chilly, honey, mushroom, squash, orchid and other items by creating a separate Darjeeling brand."

He further said that, across the country there are various retail outlet chains and well-known brands that have shown their keen interest in procuring Darjeeling products from farmers directly and selling them under the umbrella of “Darjeeling brand”. (KNN/YV)
