GCCI Seeks 10 Days Extension For Filing GST Returns, Citing Diwali Holidays As Reason

Ahmedabad, Oct 20 (KNN) The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has appealed to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for extending the time limit of filing GST returns by 10 days.

The registered businesses are required to furnish their monthly return for the month of October 2023, latest by November 20.

Citing Diwali holidays as a reason, GCCI president Ajay Patel said, “The Diwali festival is on November 12. In Gujarat, the festival of lights commences from Dhanteras on November 10 and continues till Labh Pancham on November 18. In Gujarat, most of the business embellishments and offices of professionals remain completely closed during period from New Year ie November 14 to Kartak Sud Choth on November 17.”

He added that in these circumstances, it is not possible for registered persons of Gujarat to file monthly return in FORM GSTR 3B for month of October 2023 by November 20.

“In view of the ensuing Diwali festival, we humbly request that the time limit for payment of tax and filing of return in FORM GSTR 3B for the month of October 2023 may please be extended by at least 10 days so as to make November 30 as the last date by which every registered person is required to pay tax and file return for month of October,” the official letter from GCCI said.
