Gujarat Registers 37.5 Lakh New MSMEs In 5 Years, 8,779 Shut Down: Minister Karandlaje
Gandhinagar, July 22 (KNN) Gujarat has seen the registration of 37,56,390 new Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) over the past five years, even as 8,779 MSMEs shut down operations during the same period.
Union Minister of State for MSMEs, Shobha Karandlaje, shared the information on Monday in a written response to an unstarred question posed by Member of Parliament Parimal Nathwani.
Nathwani had sought details on whether the government had assessed the impact of the global economic slowdown on MSMEs, particularly in Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, and if there were reports of MSME closures in these states.
He also inquired about the government’s response in mitigating the adverse effects of reduced global demand on small enterprises.
In her response, Karandlaje stated that 8,779 MSMEs closed in Gujarat and 2,892 in Andhra Pradesh between July 1, 2020, and July 15, 2025, based on data from the Udyam Registration Portal.
During the same period, Andhra Pradesh recorded 33,78,109 new MSME registrations.
While the figures highlight robust entrepreneurial activity in both states, the data also reflect the persistent vulnerability of smaller businesses to economic headwinds, particularly in the post-pandemic period.
