Sonowal Approves Rs 472 Crore ROB Project To Boost Tuna-Tekra Port Connectivity in Gujarat
Gandhinagar, Mar 19 (KNN) Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has approved a Rs 472 crore project for construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) along with associated infrastructure at Tuna-Tekra, part of Deendayal Port in Gujarat.
The project includes key civil works such as viaduct structures, a bridge over a creek, and provisions for maintenance over a 10-year period to ensure long-term durability and operational efficiency.
The proposal had earlier been appraised by the Delegated Investment Board in a meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
The ROB is strategically planned to serve as a primary connectivity link for the upcoming Mega Container Terminal, with a handling capacity of 2.19 million TEUs, and the Multipurpose Cargo Berth with a capacity of 18.33 MMTPA at Tuna-Tekra.
The infrastructure is expected to support seamless cargo movement and address potential bottlenecks between rail and road networks.
The execution timeline of the project is aligned with the commissioning of the Tuna-Tekra Container Terminal, which is currently at around 45 per cent physical progress.
