THDC India Signs Agreement With Gujarat To Supply 184 MW Of Clean Energy From Tehri PSP

Gandhinagar, Jun 27 (KNN) State-run THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) has signed a significant agreement with the Government of Gujarat to supply 184.08 MW of clean energy from its Tehri Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) in Uttarakhand.

The agreement with Gujarat aims to support the state’s peak-hour power demand and facilitate the large-scale integration of renewable energy (RE) into the grid, THDC India said in a statement on Thursday.

“This agreement reinforces THDCIL's commitment to driving the energy transition through innovative hydropower technologies,” said R.K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDCIL.

“With India’s first Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant, we are offering Gujarat a reliable and green energy solution to meet its dynamic peak-hour requirements,” he said.

The 1,000 MW Tehri PSP project (comprising 4 units of 250 MW each) is the first of its kind in India to use variable speed technology, enhancing flexibility in generation and storage. The first unit began commercial operations earlier this month.

Commenting on the agreement, THDC India Ltd (THDCIL) stated that it aligns with the Government of India's vision to promote pumped storage projects as a reliable solution for flexible power generation and grid balancing—especially amid rising renewable energy integration and increasingly variable demand patterns.

THDCIL currently has an installed power generation capacity of 2,497 MW, with an additional 1,865 MW under various stages of construction.
