Gurgaon, May 8 (KNN)  The NCR city which has come to be known as millennium city and is facing severe power shortages will have a second distribution company with the state regulator consider the application of a Kolkata based India Power Corporation.

The Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission is taking the legal steps in this regard which includes holding a public hearing, scheduled for June-2.

Going by reports, certain sections of the city have been facing five hour power cuts without any notice from the authorities from last month itself.  With temperatures soaring, naturally residents are concerned, fearing the worst, especially this month and the next.

Industries in the areas are the worst hit by power shortages.

According to Honorary Secretary General, Udyog Vihar Industries Association, A P Jain, they are routinely haunted by power shortage and fluctuation.

“We have five to six hour power cuts each day.  Even though we have complained several times, no action has been taken,” Jain said told KNN.

In Udgog Vihar Phases 1-5, of the 1862 units, just 500 units are working, he said, adding that other problems related to infrastructure, water shortage and inadequate facilities have compounded their problems.

Under the circumstances, the units welcome the possibility of a second discom which they hope will meet their power needs more effectively.  (KNN/ES)
