Chandigarh, Mar 3 (KNN)  Ahead of peak summer season, the Haryana government wants to buy power from the merchandise power trading firms to meet peak hours needs during April to September 2014.

The Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (UHBVNL) will procure 125-1500 MW RTC of power through Haryana Power Purchase Centre (HPPC) for the districts of Panipat,  Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal.

Towards this, the government has invited bids from power traders having valid inter state trading license issued by CERC, state electricity utilities, states generators, IPPs and CPPs for supply of power to meet the requirement.

Availability of power to HPPC includes its own generation, allocation from BBMB, share from central sector projects, share in ultra mega power projects and contracted capacity from independent power projects through long terms power purchase agreements.

HPPC is having surplus power and is in process of enhancing its generation portfolios in the state in the coming years. Number of other central sector plants where HPPC has its share of power and some projects by independent private power projects whose capacity has also been contracted for purchase, are likely to be commissioned soon.
There is huge seasonal variation in demand of power in Haryana.

With the additional generation capacity coming up in the state and contracted power arrangements by HPPC, Haryana is likely to be energy surplus during most of months. (KNN/ST)
