Gurgaon, Nov 18 (KNN) Industry associations in Haryana, propose to gradually increase the minimum wage allowance to workers instead of increasing it at one go.

“We will request the government not to increase the minimum wage allowance at once. The government should increase it gradually so that the industry is able to absorb the cost,” said President of Udyog Vihar Industries Association, Animesh Saxena.

Saxena’s request comes in the backdrop of the announcement to increase the minimum wage allowance of the workers in the state from the existing Rs 5,342 per month to Rs 8,100 per month, recently made by the Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda during his rally.

In this context, seven or eight industry associations of the National Capital Region of Gurgaon and Faridabad met on Friday to discuss the issue and it was decided to approach the CM for consideration on the matter.

“We have requested the CM to have a meeting with us,” Saxena told KNN.

Ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha and assembly elections, Hooda announced a series of incentives for all sections of the society, including enhancement of old age allowance, as well as pension for widows and the handicapped.

He enhanced minimum daily wages, and also announced the implementation of new schemes for farmers and agriculture labourers, livestock, one time settlement scheme for cooperative loans and enactment of new legislation for those operating rehri/fadi.

“The textile and garment industry in the state is already facing the burden of recently levied 5 per cent VAT, high transportation costs, fuel price hike and power problems. The cost will be ultimately passed on to the customers as well; there is so much competition in the market. In order to survive in the competition, government should give us some subsidies to make our costs competitive,” said Saxena.

The other incentives that the Chief Minister announced were insurance and compensation policy for farmers, farm labour and factory workers in case of death or disability.
Hooda announced that over 65,000 posts lying vacant in various government departments shall be filled within one year and given to unemployed youth.

He also announced that the backlog of over 15,000 posts for Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes will also be filled within one year. (KNN/SD)
