In a first, West Bengal announces free GST software for MSMEs, traders

New Delhi, Sept 4 (KNN) With the third month into the Goods and Services Tax (GST) introduced by the government, the West Bengal government has decided to provide free GST software for the businesses comprising of several Micro, Small and Medium Enterprisers (MSMEs) in the state.

West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra informed about the decision.

Mitra said that with the different returns already being filed under the new tax regime, his government has observed that the businesses sector is facing a lot of issues with regard to the compliance norms.

The free software announcement by the state government is expected to help the businesses and traders community by easing their burden of otherwise purchasing costly GST software or hiring GST experts to cater to the filing needs.

The Minister informed that the state government has approached the NIC for designing the software that would help in the filing under the One Nation One Tax regime.

Mitra further said that not just West Bengal, but one more state will be doing the same for its traders and businesses as a response to the complaints of the sector with regard to the complications faced due to the filing of multiple returns under the new tax regime.

At present, the various taxpayers including the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises have to purchase GST filing software that cost more than 15,000 rupees or hire a GST filing expert to do the GST chores.

The Goods and Services tax (GST) was launched by the government on July 1st marking it as one of the biggest tax reform in the country since independence. (KNN/DA)
