Industrial workers in J&K suffering badly due to lack of medical staffs at ESI dispensaries: FOIJ

New Delhi, Mar 29 (KNN) Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) entrepreneurs from Jammu have requested Advisor to the Governor to look at the issues related to poor Medicare facilities provided to the industrial workers in the ESI dispensaries across the state.

The issues related to the poor working condition of ESI dispensaries across the state were raised during the meeting between Federation of Industries Jammu and members of Employee State Insurance (ESI) Development Committee of J&K.

In a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Lalit Mahajan, who is the President of FOIJ, MSME entrepreneurs expressed strong resentment towards the non-serious attitude of the ESI’s AMO In-charge of Labour Department.

Despite being aware about the shortage of doctors and para medical staff in ESI dispensaries, no action has been taken by the Labour Department and Regional Director of ESI Corporation, mentioned MSMEs present in the meeting.

They said because of lack of medical staff in the ESI dispensaries, industrial workers are suffering badly.

“It is a matter of great concern that the workers are not getting the treatment even after the payment of ESI contribution from their hard earned money and have no option but to spend money for the treatment from Pvt. Clinics,” they added.

They further highlighted that due to non-availability of the Doctors, the patients are being treated by the Pharmacist endangering the life of the workers due to improper treatment.

Even no alternate arrangement on cards in case any doctor on leave and most sufferers are the female Patients, members present the meeting pointed.

“It is the responsibility of the Labour Department and ESI Corporation to provide best Medicare treatment to the workers who are the major contributor to the ESI Corporation,” they added.

It has been pointed out by the representatives that no doctor is available in the dispensaries after 2 PM in spite of the fact that the Government timings begin from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and the most sufferer are the poor workers who visit the dispensaries.

The Federation members requested the Advisor to the Governor to intervene into the matter and issue strict instructions to the Labour Department. (KNN/YV)
