Investors keen to set up MSMEs at a cost of Rs 260 cr in Tuticorin

Chennai, Sept 15 (KNN) Several investors, during the Global Investors’ Meet held recently here, has expressed interest in setting up micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) at a cost of Rs 260 crore in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu.

Collector M Ravikumar on Monday said that the district had attracted investments to the tune of Rs 68,180 crore for industrial projects at the Global Investors Meeting held in Chennai recently, according to a media report.

Five heavy industries would come up in Tuticorin. The investors had also signed memoranda of understandings during the meet, he said.

Meanwhile the district also sought for a better infrastructure and an airport to boost trade.

Tuticorin MP, J Jeyasingh Thiyagaraj Natterjee, at the Airport Advisory Committee meeting here on Monday said that all demands would be represented to the Civil Aviation Ministry to get necessary infrastructure.

Director, Tuticorin Airport, E C Taji said that said that once the 586 acres of land acquired by the district administration was handed over to the Airports Authority of India, the airport that occupied 188 acres would be expanded. Priority was also accorded to establish night landing facility.

New airlines, including Pegasus and Turbo, expressed their interest to start their operations. Wi-Fi services would soon be installed at the airport, she added. (KNN Bureau)
