IT/ITES employees in Bengal file application to form trade union to oppose unfair labour practices

Kolkata, June 21 (KNN) In a bid to oppose unfair labour practices in IT/ITEs industry, the West Bengal's IT industries' employees have approached the state government to form non-partisan trade union. The proposed name for the union is Kolkata- Forum for IT Employees (FITE).

In this regard, an application has been filed by a section of employees who are keen to keep their trade union (as and when it is formed) free of any political patronage. The application is accompanied by the signature of 140 employees.

According to media reports, the Union will primarily deal with the issue of retrenchment, appraisals and policy making, where workers will have a say. It will also provide legal remedy on work-related issues like overtime and sexual harassment, among others.

The trade union will also take up salary parity issues. The Union may also call for collective bargaining during appraisal time to revise wages.

In addition, it has been reportedly said that if the application is approved, the trade union will be registered by late September.
