Jammu MSMEs disappointed over poor power supply in industrial sector

Jammu, Oct 14 (KNN) Jammu MSMEs, who have been raising the issue of poor power supply in the industrial areas of the state, have expressed disappointment over the inability of power department to resolve the long pending issues in the region.

A meeting of members of Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) was held in Jammu today.

BBIA President Lalit Mahajan raised serious concern as Power Development Department failed to supply 24 hours uninterrupted power to the industrial area in spite of the fact that Chief Engineer M&RE, Jammu instructed the Executive Engineers STD Division I & II to do so.”

He said this has been resulting into huge financial losses to the industrial units as the MSMEs are running their units on DG sets.

“Despite repeated representations given to the Dy. Chief Minister who is also our Power Minister and Industries & Commerce Minister, no action has been taken by the Department to restore the 24 Hours Power Supply to the Industrial Sector which shows the casual attitude of the Department towards the Industrial Sector who is working in spite of all the odds,” he said.

BBIA further mentioned that on one side, Government is inviting industrial houses in the state to setup their units with the promise to provide uninterrupted power supply but on the other hand failed to provide uninterrupted quality power to the existing Industrial Units working in the State resulting into great resentment amongst the stake holders.

Moreover the Department is losing revenue due to non-supply of 24 Hour Power to the Industrial Sector in spite of the fact that the Power is available at the Grid Stations, it added.

“The units located in the Bari Brahmana Industrial Area are suffering very badly due to unscheduled power curtailment during day time also resulting disturbance on the production process. Government has also failed to provide requisite funds for the repair and maintenance of the Receiving Station BBI & BBII,  In spite of the facts that Bari Brahmana Industrial Complex is contributing  Rs. 120 Crores annually  for the power supply to the Industrial units, the Department failed to provide funds for the purchase of Consumables and  Repair/Maintenance of the receiving stations resulting frequent power failures in the complex on regular basis,” BBIA said.

Power Development Department also failed to release the Power Connections to those Industrial Units whose Cases were sanctioned by the Designated  Committee  but lying pending since long for approval with the Administrative Department, pointed the association.

BBIA has urged the Dy. Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh and Industries & Commerce Minister Chander Prakash to intervene into the matter and issue immediate orders in this regard. (KNN Bureau)
