Jammu MSMEs urge for strengthening the cross border trade between India and Pakistan

Jammu, Sept 14 (KNN) Industry bodies of Jammu and Kashmir urged for strengthening the cross LoC trade between India and Pakistan. These include ease of travelling on both sides of India and Pakistan, inclusion of local products manufactured by industrial units in the state, enlarge the list of manufactured products and tradable articles.

A delegation led by President of Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries - Cross LoC Trade, YV Sharma on Saturday met Minister Counselor, Economic, Environment, Science & Technology Affairs, USA, George Sibley and Economic Advisor in the Embassy of USA, Nisha Rajan.

Chairman, Federation of Industries, Jammu, Rajesh Jain; Co-Chairman, FOIJ, Lalit Mahajan; General Secretary, Association of Industries, Gangyal, Jammu, SB Abrol; Annil Suri, Ravi Mahajan and Mahinder Singh were present in the meeting.

YV Sharma highlighted on opening new routes at LOC and border site for better interaction between India and POK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) in order to expand the trade goods and other commodities and industrial products which include handloom and handicraft; furniture and furnishings and food items.

The industrialists also urged to develop a confidence building measures (CBM) by giving boost to trade in a big way.

While referring to opening of additional trade points in J&K, they suggested for importance of a new Suchetgarh Indo-Pak Border for business and trade route, same as Wagah Border Post, also for retreat ceremonies and cultural festivals etc. This will further help in enhancement of people to people contacts, opportunities scope for local entrepreneurs and effective marketing trade channels in the state, the industry body said in a statement.

Both Sibley and Rajan assured them all possible help and assistance in different forums and deliberations at both national and international level in order to provide better trade environment between India and Pakistan. (KNN Bureau)
