Bengaluru, Mar 8 (KNN)  With an aim to increase competitiveness of micro and small units in the coastal region of the state, Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) held an interactive session on National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme in Udupi, Karnataka.

The programme held on March-7 was organized by KASSIA in association with MSMED Institute, Mangalore, District Industries Centre, Udupi and District Small Industries Association.

Speaking on the occasion Director, MSMED Institute, Mangalore, P V Velayudhan, said that the micro and small industries are contributing considerably towards GDP and also generating employment in the state.  He suggested that the MSE sector make use of the schemes introduced by the state and central government, which would help them to grow further.

Inaugurating the programme, Velayudhan reiterated that the MSE sector played a significant role in the all-round development of the country by increasing its inherent and operational strength.

“Next to agriculture it is the small industry which generates massive employment,” he noted, stating that the MSE Sector contributed 8 per cent to GDP and 23 per cent towards exports.

Considering that the MSE sector has to face powerful competition with the countries like China, Japan, among others, the government, he said, has introduced new schemes like NMCP, Barcode, Marketing Assistance, Design Clinic, Lean Manufacturing, Incubators, and Quality Upgradation to encourage the MSE sector.  He suggested the entrepreneurs make use of those useful schemes.

Also speaking on the occasion, Vice President, KASSIA C M Rajamane, in his presidential address said that the seminar was timely since the area required repeated thrusts to enhance the vitality of small industries in the manufacturing domain.  (KNN/ES)
