Karnataka to review solar energy policy

Bangalore, Jan 30 (KNN) As an effort to ensure power self-sufficiency in the state by 2016, the Karnataka government will soon review its solar energy policy.

At the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit here yesterday, the state Department of Power Principal Secretary, Amita Prasad said that a New Energy Policy will be released soon which will have a sharper focus on solar energy generation. She urged industry to consider investing in hybrid energy parks that generate both solar and wind energy.

Prasad stated that dedicated power feeders to industry are also being set up.

The power secretary assured industry that the state government is taking key steps to mitigate all land acquisition issues. She also urged industry to spread out in the state and consider investing in northern Karnataka belt.

During the three day event, the state Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee said that the state government is focused on creating an enabling ecosystem for industry to prosper.

He emphasised the importance of promoting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and said that the next Global Investors Meet will have a focus on MSME business. (KNN/ST)
