Kerala govt to partner with private sector for skill development

“…‘un-employability’ has been causing concern from the feedback of the industry. Lack of communications and other soft skills has been identified as the root cause for the un-employability of graduate and post graduate population in the state of Kerala,” according to a notification by Nypunyam.
Nypunyam, to be held in January 2014 aims at bringing together investors, industry, trainer institutions, trainers, policy makers, policy implementers, academicians, thinkers and young people from across Kerala, India and the world to develop a plan that would identify and carry forward skills development regime in Kerala, the notification added.
The Summit will be part of ongoing new initiatives under KASE in setting up of international skill institutes in the domains of construction, security, nursing, automobile, retail, tourism, hospitality and in other skills.
The event is also envisaged to bridge the gap between real industry requirements and skilled workforce, with a focus on improving the quality standards of ITIs’ and making people employment ready.
Further, the Nypunyam summit aims at entering into of Memorandum of Understandings for industrial tie-ups for ITIs, collaborating and contributing jointly to formulate better training methodologies and introducing latest advancements for market ready skill building and for establishment of Centers of Excellence (CoEs), as a Public-Private initiative.
Under the Industrial training Department, there are 77 Industrial Training Centers (ITI), spread across Kerala. Training is imparted in 79 trades under Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Information technology, Hospitality and allied Service Sectors. Many of these ITIs are running in its own building in wide land area and are equipped with workshop, machineries and tools.
Department has made tie-ups with some private and public sector industrial units for providing training to the students of some of the ITIs. Government is looking forward to more industrial participation for improving the employability of students passing out from these ITIs.
In this context, the Department of Labour and Rehabilitation, Government of Kerala, has sought for private companies to partner with KASE by participating in Nypunyam 2014.
KASE, a government of Kerala undertaking is a company incorporated under section 25 of Companies Act, 1956, established as an apex organization for the skill development initiatives in the State of Kerala. (KNN/SD)
