Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 18 (KNN) In order to improve the quality standards of its Industrial Training Institutions (ITIs), the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE) wants to rope in the private sector for industrial tie-ups for its high tech automation drive of ITIs.

High Tech Automation is a technology that creates some degree of automation around the existing equipment, tools, methods and people, using mostly standard components available in the market and using information technology to enhance the system capability.

KASE aims at collaborating with the private sector for jointly formulating better training methodologies and introducing latest advancements for market ready skill building and for establishment of Centres of Excellence (CoEs), as a Public-Private initiative.

High tech automation is identified as the potential area for COEs, where the bridging of skill gap is felt an urgent necessity from the social as well as industrial point of view.

Under the Industrial training Department, there are 77 Industrial Training Centers (ITI), spread across Kerala, the details of which is given in the brochure. Training is imparted in 79 trades under Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Information technology, Hospitality and allied Service Sectors. Many of these ITIs are running in their own building in wide land area and are equipped with workshops.

The department has made tie-ups with some private and public sector industrial units for providing training to the students of some of the ITIs.

“Government is looking forward to more industrial participation for improving the employability of students passing out from these ITIs,” KASE said in a notification.

According to a recent survey, Indian industry is facing a serious problem with regard to availability of labour. The sectors such as textiles, leather and leather products, handicrafts, gems and jewellery, construction, auto components, food processing, plastic and plastic products, pharmaceutical sector and machine tool manufacturers face acute shortage of skilled labour.

KASE, a government of Kerala undertaking is a company incorporated under section 25 of Companies Act, 1956, established as an apex organization for the skill development initiatives in the State of Kerala. (KNN/SD)
