Mega textile clusters at Varanasi & 6 other centres

Suggesting these measures for the Parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in his Budget Speech that he proposed “to set up a Trade Facilitation Centre and a Crafts Museum with an outlay of Rs 50 crore to develop and promote handloom products and carry forward the rich tradition of handlooms of Varanasi, where I also intend to support a Textile mega-cluster.”
Jaitley has also proposed to set up six more Textile mega-clusters at Bareilly, Lucknow, Surat, Kutch, Bhagalpur, Mysore and one in Tamil Nadu, allocating a sum of Rs 200 crore for this purpose.
In addition, a Hastkala Academy for the preservation, revival and documentation of the handloom/handicraft sector in PPP mode in Delhi has been proposed for which a sum of Rs 30 crore has been set aside.
A Pashmina Promotion Programme (P-3) and a programme for the development of other crafts of Jammu and Kashmir are also in the pipeline, setting aside a sum of Rs 50 crore for the same. (KNN Bureau)
