Bhopal, Mar 15 (KNN) In order to promote renewable energy-based power plants in the state, the Madhya Pradesh government wants to set up biomass and wind energy plants, through the participation of the private sector.

The government has issued policies for various energy sources to encourage investors and developers.  It will soon set up biomass and wind energy plants in various regions of the state under Madhya Pradesh Biomass based Electricity (Power) Project Implementation Policy 2011 and Non-conventional Energy Sources (2006).

In this context, the government has invited bids from prospective developers for implementation of biomass and wind power projects.

The 'Biomass Resource Atlas of India" projects the gross potential for energy generation from agricultural sources at 1386.2 MWe in Madhya Pradesh. The policy promotes captive biomass production for which government waste land can be made available to the developers.

The state government has been encouraging wind power as an additional, alternate source of energy and has notified an investor friendly policy for the development of wind power projects in the state. Further, the New and Renewable Energy Department has initiated an extensive Wind resource assessment program with support from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. (KNN/ST)
