Bangalore, Mar 14 (KNN) The proposal to revise ceiling limits for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises is already before the Standing Committee of the Lok Sabha, Giriraj Singh, Minister of State for MSMEs recently said.

The Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (KASSIA) had urged the Minister, who was in Bangalore last week, to increase the ceiling limit for MSMEs.

In an interaction meet held with industry body Kassia last week, the Minister said that as much as Rs 1, 25,000 crore had been disbursed under Mudra Scheme which would empower a very large number of small and micro entrepreneurs.

Kassia President V K Dikshit expressed the hope that the Prabhat Kumar committee formed to frame a new national policy for MSME would submit its report soon.

He also lauded the budgetary allocation of Rs 1,80,000 crore for Mudra and SMILE Schemes, and other initiatives such as Digital India, Skill India, Make in India and Start Up India, which would spur the growth of the MSMEs in the country.

KASSIA Vice-President A. Padmanabha listed some of the important suggestions represented in a memorandum submitted to the Minister on behalf of the MSME sector.

The Memorandum proposed simplifying the process for submitting subsidy claims and permitting online submission under the CLCSS Scheme and ensuring better coordination between the concerned banks and SIDBI in view of the fact that 50% of the claims were rejected on flimsy and minor procedural grounds; increase funding under Technology Up-gradation from Rs 1 crore to Rs 5 crore under CLCSS Scheme in view of high machinery cost; enhancing the credit limit under Credit Guarantee Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) Scheme from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crore to effectively meet the credit needs of MSMEs; and putting in place a e-platform for payments to be made by large industrial units and PSUs to their MSME suppliers so that they are made within the prescribed period of 45 days, to avoid overwhelming delays in payments that were affecting the very survival of MSMEs.
