Hyderabad, Aug 23 (KNN) Central Institute of Tool Design here is offering a two year Master of Technology (M Tech) Programme in Mechatronics as well Robotics and Automation in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University , Hyderabad (JNTUH) starting this year.

Candidates having B.E/B.Tech (Electronics and Communication/Mechanical Engineering/ Electrical and Electronics/ Electronics and Instrumentation/ Aeronautical/ Automobile Engineering or equivalent) with 55 per cent marks are eligible to apply for the programme.

While the last date for submission of applications is September-9, the entrance exam has been scheduled for September-20.

Mechatronics is a word that denotes the combination of technologies which go together to produce industrial robots. A formal definition of Mechatronics is ``the synergistic integration of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Computer technology, and IT to produce or enhance products and systems.’’

Examples of such systems are Computers, Disk drives, Photocopiers, Fax machines, VCR, Washing machines, CNC machine tools, Robots, etc. Today’s modern cars are also mechatronics product with the usage of electronic engine management system, collision detection, global positioning system, and others.

While Robotics deals with intelligent machines and systems; automation includes the use of automated methods in various applications to improve performance and productivity.

Central Institute of Tool Design (CITD), Hyderabad established in 1968 by the Government of India with the assistance of UNDP and ILO, is a pioneering Institution in the field of tool engineering in the country. The Institute was initially established as a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Project and was executed by International Labour Organisation (ILO).
