Mysore, Jun 24 (KNN)  Mysore Export Centre (MEC) will soon come up in Hebbal Industrial Area here and when completed it is slated to showcase products of different districts in the region such as Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya and provide necessary support to export their products.

“The Export Centre will be equipped with facilities to conduct seminars, workshops and to showcase products on a continuous basis and will also provide necessary assistance related to export promotional activities under one roof,” said Mysore Industries Association (MIA).

The Mysore Export Centre is a project of MIA with the assistance of the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Karnataka.

Foundation stone for the Centre will be laid on June-28 by Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramiah.  On the occasion, products of Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya Industrialists will be displayed.

The units in the region have normally exported traditional products such as agarbathi, handicrafts, Mysore silk and Mysore sandal oil.  However, after industrialization, indelible ink, general engineering automobile, electric and electronics, filaments, tyres and tubes, rubber, polymer, structural plywood boards, medical equipment, paints, mechanical, pharmaceuticals, paper, animal feed, adhesives, readymade garments, fabrics, telecom products, granite, food products, software, flavours and essence, enzymes are the major products exported to the world market.

Currently, the export market turnover in Mysore is around Rs 7,000 crore per annum.  It is estimated that the export turnover would increase to Rs 17,000 crore in the next 5 years with accumulative turnover of Rs 50,000 crore after the establishment of the Centre, MIA said.

The proposed MEC will be built on a sprawling expanse of 2019 square metres area with a built up area of 2520 sq metres.

MIA represents almost 40,000 industries in and around Mysore, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts which have tremendous potential to achieve optimum growth in exports of industrial products, even as they remain a major source of employment.  (KNN/ES)
