National capital to get garden huts, acupressure walkways, fragrance park

New Delhi, Feb 24 (KNN)   The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has proposed to set up Garden Huts and a Fragrance Park in a bid to green the heart of Delhi.  Also in the offing are eco-friendly gyms and acupressure walkways.

Different types of Garden Huts shall be created in various parks at Laxmi Bai Nagar and Sarojini Nagar.  A Fragrance Park will also be developed at Laxmi Bai Nagar, said Chairman, NDMC, Jalaj Shrivastava.

A provision of Rs 75.52 crore has set aside for parks and gardens in the year 2014-15 the chairman informed.

The area under the NDMC is considered the greenest municipal area in the country, and the NDMC which is one of three civic agencies in the capital is determined to keep the record, he added.

As per the plans, a new Cactus House will be set up at the Lodhi Garden nursery, and 10 acupressure paths will be laid in various parks at Sarojini Nagar, Malcha Marg and Jor Bagh.

Known for their healing effects, acupressure walks in parks are ten-meter long pebbled walkways, complete with a railing for support, especially suitable for senior citizens.  Such walkways are popular in the far-East.

Further, a greenhouse will be constructed at the Circular Road nursery, while work on a Topiary Garden is in progress at the Talkatora Garden.

In addition, the central verge and both sides of Shanti Path which lie in the middle of Delhi's diplomatic enclave will be beautified with different horticultural features.
 
The New Delhi Municipal Council NDMC) is also setting up 33 eco-friendly gyms in public places in a unique effort to promote health among citizens.  The locations of these gyms - which can be used for free, will include certain public utility services and will figure in some leading parks.

“The aim is to make residents of the NDMC area health conscious. But these gyms will be open to anyone,” Shrivastava said.  The equipment will be eco-friendly and are designed for use, with minimum risk, by people of any age.   

Shrivastava informed that the School of Gardening – an NDMC initiative to enhance the knowledge and work efficiency in horticulture has trained more than 2,700 field officers and staff.

These officers are drawn not only from NDMC but also from Central, South and West Zones of South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Significantly, interested RWAs, schools, eco-clubs and even general public can avail of the training sessions offered at the School of Gardening.  (KNN/ES)
