New Delhi, Jan 4 (KNN) New cities will be developed in Shendra-Bidkin industrial area of Maharashtra under the prestigious Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Project.

The process has already begun with the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited (DMICDC) seeking to appoint key officials for development of new cities in the area.

In this context, DMICDC wants to engage a consultant for obtaining Programme Management Services for the Shendra – Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA).

The total area of SBIA is 84 square kilometres and the Phase I of the proposed development is around 24 square kilometres.

The objective of DMICDC is to create a world class city in the region with industry as the main driver of economic development and employment with supporting social and commercial infrastructure.

The broad vision for the SBIA is to become a showcase of Maharashtra’s leading manufacturing industries. The main principles of SBIA are - integrate smart growth within a new sustainable township; identify high-value manufactured products with high export potential; maintain a unique cultural heritage; and provide a healthy quality of life.

A comprehensive concept master plan has been prepared which includes the proposed land uses, strategy and framework.

The USD 90-billion DMIC project is a State-Sponsored Industrial Development Project of the Government of India. It aims at developing an Industrial Zone spanning across six states in India.

The project will see major expansion of infrastructure and industry – including industrial clusters and rail, road, port, air connectivity – in the states along the route of the Corridor.

DMIC has received major boost with India and Japan inking an agreement to set up a project development fund. Conceived as a global manufacturing and trading hub, the project is expected to double employment potential, triple industrial output and quadruple exports from the region in five years. The total employment to be generated from the project is 3 million, the bulk of which will be in the manufacturing/processing sectors. (KNN Bureau)
