Neyveli's R&D centre mandated for metal testing

Chennai, May 1 (KNN) The Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD) has been granted accreditation by a government board for chemical and mechanical testing of coal, lignite, building material lubricant, petroleum and water effluents.
CARD is the R&D wing of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation, a Navratna public sector company.
The accreditation to CARD has been given by the National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration laboratories.
The centre will also do testing of plastic and plastic products, rubber and rubber products.
While chemical testing will be done for coal/lignite, coke and other solid fuels; air, water and effluents, metal and alloys, building materials, lubricant, petroleum and metallic coatings; mechanical testing will be done for building material, metals and alloys, plastic and plastic products and rubber and rubber products.
Centre for Applied Research and Development (CARD) is the in-house R&D Centre of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited and has been recognized by the Department of Science and Technology since 1975.
The major functions of CARD are carrying out Science and Technology Projects (Ministry of Coal), In-house S&T Plan Projects, Pollution level measurements, Quality control Testing and Consultancy services, Pilot Plant studies based on R&D and commercialization of technology developed, Coordination of S&T projects taken by other NLC Units, Institutional services for students, Special studies for operation and new schemes etc.
CARD has a well-established analytical facility and is rendering analytical services towards quality control of various products/materials used in mines, power stations and other service units as well as outside agencies. The analytical testing facility includes lignite analytical, microbiology, material testing, environmental section, soil mechanical section, metal testing, paint testing, general analytical, petrography etc.
CARD has been carrying out various R&D works on lignite utilization, diversification, product development, by-product utilization, solid waste management, wasteland reclamation, corrosion evaluation and prevention etc. (KNN/ES)
