Bhubaneswar, June 12 (KNN) The Odisha government has urged Coal India Limited (CIL) to allow Odisha Small Industries Corporation (OSIC) to execute fuel supply agreement (FSA) for distribution of coal among coal consuming MSMEs.

The move comes in a bid to enable the agency to take up coal distribution assignment for 2015-16.

“OSIC may be allowed for execution of fuel supply agreement (FSA) for distribution of coal among coal consuming MSMEs in order to enable the agency to take up coal distribution assignment for 2015-16,” MSME Additional Secretary PS Mishra wrote in a letter to Coal India, reports media.

Earlier last month, Odisha government has asked the CIL to allocate 1,83, 000 tonne of coal to meet the requirement of MSMEs in the state during 2015-16.

State-run OSIC in addition to the Bhubaneswar branch of National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) were nominated as the nodal agencies for the supply of coal to the MSMEs this year by the government.

The coal requirement of a MSME unit is calculated on the basis of a joint capacity assessment made by concerned District Industries Centre (DIC) and MSME Development Institute under the Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

Since OSIC was not ready to handle the business, the Government had written to Coal India on April 30 to allow NSIC to supply coal to MSME units from its quota.

There are more than 40 coal consuming units in the State that include refractories, casting units, chemical factories, coal briquettes and textile mills. (KNN Bureau)
