Bhubaneswar, Jun 24 (KNN) Odisha government has proposed to introduce a new set of incentives in the form of an Export Development Assistance Scheme (EDAS) be floated on the lines of Market Development Assistance (MDA) of the Central Government to improve its export share in the country.

Towards this, the state government will launch Exporters Card on the lines of Green Card to provide passage of consignment at the government check gates on priority basis.
The Exporters Card will be issued to only select firms which are 100 per cent export oriented units, those designated as export houses, star export house and premier trading house as per the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), it said.

The card holders will be entitled to a host of facilities such as minimum inspection of cargo trucks at check gates, issue of statutory forms without rationing, single window clearance of licenses, surprise visits only by senior assessing officials apart from a designated grievance cell.

Odisha ports do not have container facility and the exporters have to depend on Vizag, Kolkata and Haldia which are cost-competitive in nature.

In 2012-13, the merchandise exports from India stood at Rs 16,34,673 crore. Odisha’s export earning was Rs 11,448 crore during the period. Currently, Odisha’s share in national exports is 0.7 per cent. (KNN Bureau)
