Over Rs 200 crore water-sewerage jobs on offer in Punjab

Chandigarh, May 14 (KNN)  Cash-rich Water Supply and Sanitation Department of the Punjab Government today said jobs worth more than Rs 200 crore are there for asking in the area of rural water supply and sewerage.
 
Being funded by the World Bank, the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation (DWSS) of the Punjab government said it is “flush with cash in hand and presently there is zero liability on account of jobs already executed by the contractors.”
 
“Tenders worth Rs 200 crore are awaiting bidders,’ it said. 
 
It said, the department uses the most progressive policies of bidding and execution. For the present lot, the department has sought tenders worth Rs 48 crore for execution of works in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, Batala, Pathankot, Amritsar and Taran Taran.
 
“The Government of Punjab has arranged a World Bank loan for pro-actively implementing 24X7 piped rural water supply and solid – free sewerage scheme…Another World Bank loan is also in the pipeline,” it said. 

Interested units with the required resources and expertise in undertaking quality executions for tubewell based piped rural water supply and sewerage and confident about meeting deadlines have been asked to participate in the process, according to an official notification.

DWSS works to improve health of people by providing potable and adequate drinking water to the residents and improving environmental hygiene by providing proper sanitation.

Towards this end, the department undertakes planning, execution, operation and maintenance of works relating to water supply and sanitation in rural areas.  (KNN)
