Bengaluru, Aug 26 (KNN)  The Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) has asked the Transport Minister to procure auto components through them to ensure right price, right quality and timely delivery.

The interaction between the Association and the transport minister took place at the ASRTU Vendor Meet organized by KASSIA in association with the Government of Karnataka, RIMSR- Brenau University, Georgia, USA and ASRTU here today.

In his presentation, Executive Director, ASRTU, P S Ananda Rao said that ASRTU helped provide state road transport undertakings right quality auto spares at right price at right time, by establishing rate contracts with quality spare parts manufacturers. With the ASRTU’s approved rate contract, an auto components manufacturer did not have to participate in every individual STU tender and could directly approach any STUs in different States.

Despite this advantage, the procurement of auto components through ASRTU by state road transport undertakings was only around 17 per cent of the total purchases made, he said, appealing to the Transport Minister to increase procurement of auto components by the state’s SRTUs through the ASRTU’s rate contract.

He added that the ASRTU had already written to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Finance for including the rate contract awarded by it in the approved list of central purchase organizations like the DG S&D.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Vendor Meet, Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy said that the four Karnataka’s road transport undertakings together source more than 25 per cent of their total annual purchase of auto spare parts of Rs 570 crore from the State’s small and medium scale industries.

The Minister said that the Vendor Meet would enable new entrants to know the intricacies of ASRTU’s Vendor Development Registration Scheme (VDRS), which would also help the State’s STUs to meet their requirements without any hassles.

Earlier, welcoming the participants, president, KASSIA Chidananda M Rajamane observed that a vendor development registration scheme (VDRS) had been put in place by the ASRTU to facilitate timely completion of works for the new entrants. The process of undertaking works inspection, sample testing, field trials by the STUs requires long cycle time ranging up to 6- 8 months.

For any firm desirous of entering into contracts with the ASRTU, these activities if commenced on receipt of the tenders, would delay the process of award of contract to them as compared to the firms applying for renewal/up-gradation of their existing contracts, he added.

Also speaking on the occasion, Director (Technical), ASRTU, S K Patra stated that the STUs numbering 62 in all operated 1.47 lakh buses serving 70 million passengers everyday and providing gainful employment to nearly one million people.

The inaugural session was followed by a series of Technical Presentations on Tendering, RC system, Vendor Development Registration Scheme (VDRS), Testing, Procurement Policies, Panel Discussion on Banking Needs and IT Solutions for MSMEs, e-learning and skill enhancement, and supply chain and procurement for MSMEs.

A large gathering comprising KASSIA Office Bearers, Past Presidents, Council Members, Special Invitees and representatives of Affiliate Associations from within and outside Bangalore, officials from the state government, representatives of RIMSR, Brenau University, Georgia, USA and ASRTU and Channabasappa, Controller of Stores and Purchases, KSRTC, took part in the meet.
