Known for its cuisine, culture and history, Punjab is richly endowed with fertile farming land, and boasts monuments, gurudwaras, sacred shrines, temples, lakes, museums and wildlife sanctuaries.
To develop these further, the Board is now keen to hire consultancy firms to conduct feasibility studies and for preparation of master plans.
In the pipeline are plans for conservation works, civil works, landscaping, infrastructure like roads and also eco-tourism projects.
The functions of the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board are to undertake directly or through public-private partnership setting up tourism infrastructure; promote crafts and skills related to the State; encourage expression of artists in the mediums of painting, sculpture, theatre, creative writing, music, films, documentaries; and publish the rich and diverse heritage of Punjab, especially in the music, dance, cuisines, costumes etc. (KNN/ES)
