Rs 2.6 lakh distributed to handloom clusters in Manipur under NERTPS

Imphal, Oct 1 (KNN) As the first instalment of the North East Region Textiles Promotion Scheme (NERTPS), Manipur Commerce and Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam has distributed Rs 2.6 lakh each to 11 handloom clusters of Bishnupur district.

The programme was jointly organised by the district handlooms, textiles Bishnupur and handloom clusters of Bishnupur district under NERTPS recently.

Appealing to the beneficiaries not to misuse the funds, Konthoujam stated that such useful schemes should be properly utilised by the weavers and they should work with sincerity and dedication.

To receive the second instalment of the scheme, weavers must show sheer interest and provide their best efforts to bring out the best quality products and take part in the upcoming training sessions so that the Textiles Ministry grants weaver with the remaining payment, he said.

The minister also asserted that the present schemes will be strictly monitored by the Ministry by introducing a system called Geographical Information System (GIS).

With the introduction of the GIS, the Ministry will monitor all the activities of the weavers ranging from training and weaving online, he said.

The department also distributed cheque of Rs 26,000 each to every Self Help Group (SHG) which is a cluster consisting of ten Self Help Groups (SHGs).

On the occasion, the State Deputy Director, K Lamlee Kamei said that the broad objective of the NETPS is to develop and modernise the textile sector in the North East Region by providing the required Government support in terms of raw material, seed banks, machinery, common facility centres, skill development, design and marketing support.

Regarding this first trial to implement the NETPS scheme in the Bishnupur district, Kamei, he said that if the beneficiaries sincerely utilize the schemes successfully, many benefits will be continued to provide by the Government in the form of instalment.
