Rs 32.50 crore for skill, employment & training programme

Chennai, Jul 25 (KNN)  Tamil Nadu Government is planning to start a new training programme for youth aged between 18 and 25 to serve in micro, small and medium enterprises in the State.

The Amma Skill, Employment and Training Programme that will cost Rs 32.50 crore announced by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa yesterday will provide a boost to the 9.68 lakh MSME units in the state, according to official data released yesterday.

As many as 25,000 youth, 30 per cent of which will be women, will be trained in the programme in the current year, as per the target.

Under the programme, youth will be trained and provided employment in the enterprises during which they will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5000 per month.  Thereafter, the government will pay Rs 12,000 to the companies that trained the youth.

After a review by the National Skill Development Corporation, candidates will receive certificates.

The Chief Minister also announced an increase in grant for self-employment schemes from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1.25 lakh.

Also in the pipeline are new industrial estates to come up at R Kombai in Dindigul district, Dhandarai in Kancheepuram and Punchaikalakurichi in Karur.  This would bring the total number of industrial estates to 100.  (KNN/ES)
