Several tourism & culture projects sanctioned for Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Dec 15 (KNN)  As a part of the initiatives that will promote tourism and at the same time generate employment, several tourism and culture projects have been sanctioned for the state of Chhattisgarh.

Tourism will be used to fight terrorism and generate employment in the country, said Minister of State for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mahesh Sharma, speaking with reporters during his one day visit to the state on Sunday, according to an official release.

Sharma announced that new initiatives will be launched on ‘Suhshasan Divas’ on December-25  this year to promote tourism in the country, emphasising the need for beautification, security and cleanliness of monuments and well-developed connectivity to boost tourism.

Subsequently, the minister met with the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Raman Singh when several issues related to promotion of tourism and culture in the state, were raised.  
The Chief Minister requested that the historical site of Sirpur be included in the Buddhist circuit; and that one more tourist circuit be sanctioned in addition to the Bastar circuit already sanctioned. He also proposed that an international Tribal festival be held in Raipur.

In response the Union Tourism and Culture Minister promised to look into the demands.  Significantly, he assured that funds will be sanctioned for Sirpur site development, especially for the construction of a museum; and that a Rs 48 crore proposal will be sanctioned on priority for the 7 amphitheatre projects in the state for which DPRs have already been sent by the state government.

In the Civil Aviation sector, the Chief Minister raised the need to upgrade Raipur airport into an international airport, the issue of Bilaspur airport as well as developing Jagdalpur as green field airport to which Sharma assured all possible help.
