Severe heat wave impacts labour turnout in Bihar MSMEs; industries hopeful that monsoon will wash away the problem soon

Patna, June 21 (KNN) Bihar is currently grappling under severe problems including Encephalitis and heat wave. The death toll in Bihar due to heat wave has crossed 180 this year. KNN India spoke to micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the state about the labour turn up and situation the industries deal with during such harsh weather conditions.

Load shedding, manpower shortage, low labour turn out are some problems we spoke about.

According to the Bihar State Disaster Management Department (BSDMA), the maximum number of the death toll has occurred in Aurangabad, Gaya, and Nawada district. The Authorities have directed the people not to come out in between 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. due to extreme weather conditions.

PK Agrawal, President of Bihar Chamber of Commerce and Industries told KNN India, “South Bihar doesn’t have much effect of the heat wave but other parts are under its effect. Except for medicine shops, no other shops are allowed to open as directed by the authority. Patliputra, Hazipur and Patna have small scale industries like flour mills, biscuit factories, plywood and steel which have seen a shortage in manpower from last 10 to 15 days. It affects the production in these industries to some extent. We hope the weather will come to normal condition with the arrival of monsoon and production will resume’’.

“There are some areas in the city including Boring Road, Buddha Colony, Raja Bazar, Samanpura and Macchua Toli which face the problem of power cuts,” he added further.

A resident of Boring Road, Shashank Dipankar said, “From last two months we are facing the problem of power cuts. Most often it happens during nights and it becomes difficult to pass the night in such an extreme weather condition here. In general, five to six times I see the power cut in a day,” he added further. (KNN/VS)
