Stretch between Guntur & Vijayawada likely to house Andhra capital

According to media reports, the state government has approved the possible location between Vijayawada and Guntur in a meeting yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Sivaramakrishnan Committee that was constituted by the Union Government to suggest the place to build the capital city of Andhra Pradesh has opposed the Vijayawada-Guntur stretch stating that it could cause ecological problems.
The Sivaramakrishnan committee submitted its 187 page report to the Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on 27 August 2014. The committee had toured as many as 11 districts in Andhra Pradesh from May 7 and accepted 4,728 suggestions from the people.
Headed by former urban development secretary, K Sivaramakrishnan, the five-member panel has identified three sub-regions — Vizag region in North Andhra, Rayalaseema ‘Arc’ comprising Kurnool, Anantapur, Tirupathi, Kadapa and Chittoor, and land along the proposed Kalahasti-Nadikudi railway line — for the new capital.
