New Delhi Jan 15 (KNN)  As a relief measure to the flood affected areas in Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has disclosed various steps to boost the affected MSME sectors and small traders to include loan moratorium, interest-free lending and relaxation of norms for unemployed educated youth for self-employment ventures.

Speaking to KNN, President, TANSTIA Muthusami C said, “We appreciate the assistance that government of Tamil Nadu has offered. We are welcoming the announcement of the Tamil Nadu investment corporations that they are going to reduce the interest rate of the affected area.”

“For small traders, they’ve offered interest free loan for Rs 5 thousand,” he added.

Though the industry appreciates the given relief structure, industry claims that there are certain demands that are to be kept in front of the government for consideration.

“We have placed before them other demands also,” said the president. “We want a relief sum of Rs. 50 thousand for micro industries in the flood incurred areas,” Muthusami told KNN.

“We have also asked for 5 lakh rupees interest free loan depending upon the extent of damage in flood incurred areas,” he added.

Muthusami also stated about the industry’s demand for relief on power consumption charges since the industry was dysfunctional for a significant period of time due to floods.

“We asked for power consumption relief for affected industries. Industry did not function during flood days but they are charging us on the basis of average yearly consumption, including the months during which the industry was dysfunctional. We have requested them not to charge for electricity during the non-working period,” Muthusami said.

Other demands by the flood affected MSMEs in Tamil Nadu include the exemption of VAT for 6 months to six of the most severely flood affected districts in Tamil Nadu.

“We hope the CM will consider our demand and provide relief in the coming days,” he concluded.  (KNN Bureau)
