Tamil Nadu traders to boycott Coke & Pepsi from Aug 15

Chennai, May 15 (KNN) The Tamil Nadu Traders Federation (TNTF) has announced the boycott of beverages of multi-national companies such as Coke, Pepsi and other products across Tamil Nadu from August 15 in order to promote the sales of indigenous products.

Addressing the reporters, Federation’s president T. Vellaiyan said “The Centre allowing the sales of foreign brands in the state has affected the sales of indigenous products and local traders. Also, the government has allowed numerous foreign online firms to sell their products in the country, which has hit the direct purchase of products from retail stores.”

In a bid to resolve these issues, the traders’ federation has decided to boycott Pepsi and Coke, which are the two major foreign brands that “directly exploit” natural water resources here, he alleged.

As a sign of showing the spirit of Swadeshi, the traders have planned to implement the ban from August 15 the Independence Day, said Vellaiyan.

To stage the protest, a massive bike rally would be organized across various regions in Tamil Nadu during the first week of August explaining the need to boycott these products, he added.
