Dehradun, Apr 25 (KNN)  MSMEs in Uttarakhand face various operational problems pertaining to procuring inputs from domestic and local markets, burdensome interstate taxes, energy deficit, high energy costs and unavailability of skilled workforce, according to a study.

In addition, limited awareness about government schemes, lack of R&D activity and unavailability of finances have hindered progress of the units in the state.

However, there has been improvement in the infrastructure facilities in the state in terms of transportation, abundance supply of water, technological advancement during the recent years though further improvement is required at various fronts, the study said.

‘Emerging Contours in the MSME sector of Uttarakhand’ is a survey based study conducted by the PHD Research Bureau of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

It was released on April-9 by Principal Secretary MSME, Government of Uttarakhand, M H Khan.

The study focuses on the growth dynamics of the MSME sector and operational issues faced by various stakeholders across manufacturing and services sectors.

Among other measures, it has recommended that financial infrastructure, skill development and capacity building be improved in order to facilitate the MSME sector to boost employment opportunities and entrepreneurship in the state.

“Conducive industrial policy environment, single window clearances system, awareness regarding government policies and early implementation of GST would be critical to boost industrial development in the state, going forward,” it said.   (KNN/ES)
