Telangana govt formulating export promotion strategy

Hyderabad, July 11 (KNN) In a bid to facilitate exporters, Telangana Government is formulating export promotion strategy, said Jayesh Ranjan Principal Secretary of Industries and IT.

He was speaking at the seminar on export opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

He said this will work to bring granite, processed food, gems and jewellery, engineering products and handicrafts among other sectors that it has identified as having export potential back into focus.

The new policy is being worked upon after understanding the problems of the MSME clusters. The inputs given from the district field visits will be considered before finalizing the export strategy, Ranjan said.

“Telangana is right now in top five exporting States, but if you exclude services exports our ranking falls. If we only look at merchandise export we are in top 10,” he said.

The State Government will look to plug infrastructure gaps. It will look to tap in to the Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) of the Ministry of Commerce, which supports infrastructure projects as part of the its mandate to enhance export opportunities, he said.
