There are more than 10 lakh MSMEs in North Eastern region

New Delhi, Aug 4 (KNN) There are 10.64 lakh Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the North-Eastern Region, including Assam, according to the latest Census (Fourth Census) as well as data extracted from Economic Census 2005.
 
The Census has been conducted by Central Statistics Office (CSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) for activities excluded from Fourth Census, namely wholesale/retail trade, legal, educational & social services, hotel & restaurants, transports and storage & warehousing (except cold storage).
 
The Government facilitates the promotion and development of MSMEs in the country including North-Eastern Region by improving access to finance through implementation of Credit Guarantee Scheme, Performance and Credit Rating Scheme, etc. and supporting technology development through implementation of various schemes/programmes like Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme etc, Minister of State, MSME, Giriraj Singh said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
 
The Government is implementing Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in the country including North-Eastern Region to facilitate generation of employment. The Margin Money Subsidy released during the current year (as on 16.07.2015), for North-Eastern Region under the PMEGP is Rs 108.01 Crores.
 
There are four MSME-Development Institutes (DIs) located at Guwahati, Agartala, Gangtok, and Imphal with their Branch institutes in the region, he informed. (KNN Bureau)
