Time for Gujarat industries to rethink their recruitment strategy as state govt is taking action against units flouting local workforce norms

Gandhinagar, Aug 30 (KNN) The Gujarat government has started probe against industrial units which are taking government subsidies and still flouting local workforce norms under which it is mandatory for private entities to enroll locals as 85 per cent of their employee workforce.

According to a leading daily, “Gujarat government has initiated action against industrial units including Suzuki Motors Gujarat Pvt Ltd (SMG) for violating its norms related to employment of ‘locals’ in the workforce.”

Over this matter, KNN India spoke to President of Federation of Kutch Industries association (FOKIA), Nimish Phadke, who said that the norms were already there since the inception of incentive policy and non compliance of the same was attracting the recovery proceedings of incentives from the industrial unit.

In the era of globalization, with right approach the government was going soft on the issue. But now it appears that it has changed its perception on the matter and actions on more industrial units may follow and this may compel industrial units to rethink their recruitment strategy, he added.
