TN power regulator proposes tariff hike of 21%

It said the proposed tariff increase would translate into a cost increase for various categories of consumers in the state in the range of Rs 0.65 to Rs 1.40 per unit.
Earlier, the commission in a consultative paper, on fixing tariff for wind and bagasse-based cogeneration projects and has asked for feedback by October 27. It has also come out with a consultative paper on power procurement by distribution licensees from biomass based power plants.
An edict of the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity (APTEL) in 2011 empowered state electricity regulators to revise tariffs without an initiative of the respective states.
Opposing the proposal, the state industry bodies said it will not be an attractive destination for the investors if the governor does not rework the tariff. (KNN Bureau)
