ADB Sanctions Rs 975 Crore Loan For Industrial Infrastructure Development In Tripura
New Delhi, Jul 21 (KNN) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a loan of Rs 975.26 crore for the development of infrastructure across nine industrial areas in Tripura, a senior official confirmed on Monday.
Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) Chairman Nabadal Banik stated that the project aims to build world-class industrial infrastructure, including industrial sheds, power substations, underground electric lines, fire service stations, and 34 roads. "The implementation is underway," Banik told PTI.
The nine industrial zones covered under the initiative include areas in Bodhjungnagar, R K Nagar, Dukli, and AN Nagar.
Additionally, the state government has allocated land for setting up new industrial zones—127 acres in Santirbazar in South Tripura and 28 acres in Fatikroy in Unakoti district.
Banik noted that the TIDC has begun demarcation work in these new areas and is taking steps to ensure optimal use of industrial land.
“We are ensuring that no land allocated for industries remains unused for a long period of time,” he said.
To accommodate emerging entrepreneurs, TIDC has reclaimed 28 acres of land from 24 dormant industrial units. Banik also revealed a new initiative to promote the plywood industry in the state.
Currently, two plywood units are operational, and seven more are in various stages of planning. With 1.1 lakh hectares of rubber plantation—10,000 hectares of which are senile—Tripura is leveraging rubber wood to develop its plywood industry.
“If these projects are implemented, Tripura will be one of the leading states in plywood manufacturing,” Banik added.
Senile rubber plantations refer to aged trees that are no longer productive for latex extraction but can still be used as raw material for plywood production.
