UCCI urges PM to revive MSME industries devastated by cyclone ‘Fani’

Bhubaneswar, May 21 (KNN) After the devastation that Cyclone Fani caused, Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) of Odisha has urged the Central Government to grant subsidy for the revival of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) industries affected by recent Cyclone Fani.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UCCI requested to relax interest rate on loans, applications of GST for at least 3 months; partially wave of loans and grant subsidy for the revival of MSME sector.

It said “The recent devastating cyclone Fani that visited Odisha coast on May 3rd 2019 ravaged a number of vital establishments and units involved in industrial production and trade & commerce activities.”

More particularly the districts of Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapara & Jagatsinghpur including the State capital Bhubaneswar have been the worst victims. The industrial units as well as Trade & Commerce establishment of these places have suffered a lot in the aftermath of the cyclone ‘Fani’, it added.

UCCI asserted “The cyclone has its disastrous effects on all these units in the above places find it an uphill task to revive as their losses have been of gigantic proportions.”

It will be several months before the units are able to revive and are back in operation. They would still be incurring the recurring expenses like, salary and wages to the employees, minimum power bill and other overhead expenses, UCCI pointed.

The Chamber requested the Prime Minister to consider the above genuine demands which will help in expeditious revival of all the Industry, Trade & Commerce units so as to enable them to play a significant role in the Country’s economy.
