Unscheduled power cuts during peak production hours burning holes on MSMEs’ pockets in Jammu

Jammu, June 4 (KNN) The micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from the Bari Brahmana industrial area of Jammu, who have to run their units on DG sets due to power cuts during day time as well as in the evening, have urged the Governor of J&K to intervene in the matter as this is putting more financial burden on the MSMEs.

The industrialists have urged Satya Pal Malik, Governor, J&K and K.K. Sharma Advisor to theGovernor to kindly intervene in to the matter and issue necessary directions to the concerned officials to ensure un-interrupted power supply to the industries.

In this regard, a meeting was conducted by the members of Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) under the presidentship of Lalit Mahajan.

Mahajan said, “The members present in the meeting raised serious concerns as Power Development Department has failed to supply 24 hours uninterrupted power to industrial sector with the imposition of 2 hours power cut from 8.00pm to 10.00pm with an excuse of shortage of Power due to peak hour’s power load.”

He said this is resulting into huge financial losses to the industrial units for running of their units on DG Set.

Furthermore, Mahajan noted that unscheduled power cuts in the day time has created more problems for the industries.

He said the power department cites the reason of overheating of transformers as the department has no Cooling Equipments installed in the Grid Stations which is “very surprising”.

“Due to unscheduled power cuts, the most sufferers are the industrial units engaged in the manufacturing of Plastic Goods, Steel Products and other related products as heavy loss of material in process reported and unit holders have no option but to stop the Production resulting in standstill of the industrial activities in the industrial areas across the State due to which the Industrial Units are suffering huge financial losses,” BBIA said in a statement.

BBIA President said the industrial sector is working in the state in spite of all the odds and regularly paying huge amount on account of power dues with minimum transmission losses whereas Power Development Department failed to supply the Quality Power.
