UP CM inaugurates 132kV GIS Substation at Lucknow commissioned for UP Power Transmission Corp

Lucknow, Oct 31 (KNN) In a move that would improve efficiency and reliability of power supply in the city, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister inaugurated a 132/33 kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) set up here at Neebu Park.

The substation was successfully commissioned earlier this month by Meerut based Kanohar Electricals Ltd in collaboration with CHEM, Taiwan, for UP Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.

This is UPPTCL’s largest 132kV GIS substation, including eight bays of 132 kV GIS, and 29 bays of 33 kV GIS, with transformation capacity of 189MVA.

The substation will improve the efficiency and reliability of power supply in Old City area of Lucknow, which is home to major historic and tourist spots such as Imambara.

The substation was set up in a record time of 12 months from date of handing over of land, including the period for securing various statutory and engineering approvals.

Commenting on the occasion, Ajay Kohli, Vice President, Kanohar Electricals Ltd said, “We are delighted to announce the successful commissioning of the 132 kV GIS substation which will not only strengthen the power supply of State Capital but also lead to redevelopment and beautification of Old City Area thus promoting tourism. We are also proud to contribute to ‘Make in India’ & ‘Make in UP’ campaign by establishing world class GIS local manufacturing facility at Meerut in 2014 under technical collaboration with a leading global manufacturer based in Taiwan."

Kanohar Electricals Ltd is a leading manufacturer of High Voltage Power Transformers and Gas Insulated Switchgear in India and EPC contractor of Air Insulated and Gas Insulated Substations, with facilities in Meerut, UP.

Chung-Hsin Electric & Machinery Mfg. Corp (CHEM) is leading global manufacturer of Gas Insulated Substations upto 550kV and GCB upto 765kV, with facilities in Taiwan and China.

GIS is a major piece of electrical equipment used in substation. It needs much less land area compared to the conventional air-insulated substations and therefore presents an effective solution to the problem of scarce availability and high cost of land.
