UP tops the list with maximum no. of sick units in March 2015, Maharashtra at second & Gujarat at third position

According to the provisional data compiled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) the total number of sick micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in March, 2015 was 5, 16,619 with an loan of Rs 33378.17 crore .
The total number of sick units almost doubled from 2,22,204 in March 2013 to 4,68,397 in March 2014. The total number reached 5, 16,619 in March 2015.
Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh, informed Parliament about the various initiatives that the government has taken for revival of closed/sick MSMEs.
He said that the revised guidelines for rehabilitation of sick MSEs issued on November 1, 2012 by RBI, provides for - Early detection of sickness; a viability study to form the basis of rehabilitation package to potentially viable sick MSEs; and a non-discretionary one time settlement (OTS) scheme for the MSE sector.
Ministry had also issued a ‘Framework for Revival and Rehabilitation of MSMEs’ vide a Gazette Notification dated 29.05.2015 for facilitating the promotion and development of MSMEs
Further, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has also introduced “Management/ Restructuring of Stressed Assets and Rehabilitation Scheme for MSMEs”. The Scheme provides for relief and concessions (in the form of re-schedulement, reduction in rate of interest, funding of overdue/ future interest and waiver etc.) as well as need based additional financial assistance for revival of MSME sick units.
